21 Oct Night-time lifting of the Pré-Bois footbridge, Vernier

🌙 While Vernier (GE) slept, a new metal footbridge a was built.

Following on from the S-shaped structure in the Quartier de l’Étang, a new metal structure has been erected above the Pré-Bois road. Both are part of the soft mobility route leading to the station.

The metal footbridge was lifted into place at night in one piece, requiring the complete closure of all four lanes of the road and even the temporary suspension of SBB CFF FFS⚡ contact lines. A precision operation orchestrated by all the teams involved – well done!

✨ 30 m long, 6.2 m wide and 1.4 m high, the structure weighs over 50 tonnes and consists of a double box girder with closed sections and orthotropic decking.

The unique feature of the latter is that it is made of steel reinforced with ribs welded both widthwise and lengthwise. This design eliminates the need for a concrete slab, providing a strong and lightweight metal footbridge
