23 Oct Bois de Rosset Viaduct in Avenches
Built in 1988, the Bois de Rosset Viaduct in Avenches is Switzerland’s first composite bridge, combining steel and concrete.
A symbol of innovation in its day… it was now in need of a facelift. 😄
With the structure ageing and road traffic increasing 🚗🚛, we undertook a complete renovation and reinforcement of the bridge.
On the outside, all the pier heads were reinforced by welding steel shells. 🔥
But the most impressive work took place inside the viaduct. While vehicles continued to drive over it, our teams reinforced the caissons with new welds and added beams to stabilise the deck.
Thanks to these interventions, the bridge has regained its strength and reliability for decades to come.
A project carried out in such a confined and demanding environment deserved to be immortalised in pictures! 📸👏
