12 Dec Lifting the 4th section of the Grand-Pont in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
During the night of 7 to 8 December, the 4th section of the Grand-Pont in La Chaux-de-Fonds was lifted into place over the SBB tracks. 🚆 👊
The 35-metre-long element, weighing 200 tonnes, was assembled and welded on the ground, then lifted into place in one piece using a 750-tonne capacity crawler crane!
Built in the late 1960s, the Grand-Pont on the RC1320 is one of the busiest bridges in the canton of Neuchâtel, carrying almost 12,000 vehicles a day.
Due to the deterioration of its structure, it has been decided to replace it with a new mixed steel-concrete bridge, approximately 145 m long (unchanged) and 20 m wide (previously 17.5 m).
BRAVO to our teams on site! 😍 👏
